Imam Hussain A.S. lessons

10 Lessons from
The Tragedy of #Karbala

1. Hussain (as) stopped in the middle of the battlefield to perform his obligatory prayers with arrows shooting at him… the least we can do is perform our daily prayers on time.

2. Hussain (as) sacrificed his family including his six month old for the sake of Allah… the least we can do is sacrifice our worldly desires for the sake of Allah (swt).

3. Lady Zainab (as) prayed Salatul Layl (the night prayers) in the state of sitting down on the night of Ashura after the tragic loss of her entire family… the least we can do is pray Salatul layl in our peaceful nights.

4. Abbas (as) was sitting at the river side after not drinking water for three days but wouldn’t drink because he couldn’t bare to quench his thirst while his brother Hussain was still thirsty… the least we can do is love for our brothers like we’d love for ourselves.

5. Young children begged to fight for the cause of the religion of Islam… the least we can do is know that we are never too young to practice Islam.

6. Ali (as), son of Hussain was too sick to stand and was dragged around in chains for days from Karbala to Damascus and still found the power to give his amazing speech to Yazid and his people… the least we can do is stand up for what we believe and not pity ourselves in the face of oppression.

7. Lady Zainab watched everyone she knew killed or abused and when asked by Yazid “what did u think of what God has done to you?” She replied “I didn’t see anything but beauty”… the least we can do is learn from the patience of Zainab and dedicate the entirety of our actions solely to Allah (swt).

8. Umul Baneen (as) lost all 4 of her sons in the tragedy of Karbalaa and when being told she only cared to know for the life of Hussain… the least we can do is sacrifice all that we are attached to please the Imam of our time.

9. Al-hur who led the trap of Hussain then realised he was wrong in doing so and seeked the forgiveness of the Imam and was forgiven immediately… the least we can do is to know its never too late to repent with Allah the most merciful.

10. Hussain (as) forgave Al-hur immediately without holding a grudge or blaming him for putting himself and his family in this situation… the least we can do is learn how to be more forgiving when someone apologises for wronging us.

Imam Hussain A. S. Ashura Day

Imam Hussain A.S. on day of Ashura saving Islam and Humanity.

Imam Hussain bade his final salaam to the camp. Imam Hussain sister Zainab held the reins of his horse to proffer her final khidmat. Hussain rode into battle and fought with the valour of Haider,
Hussain is in force, Zulfiqar is in force, who has the strength - to face Hussain?!
Angel Jibraeel descended, with him were the angels of the land, the sea and the air and he submitted unto Hussain, “If you wish, these angels will vanquish your foes in an instant.”
Hussain looked at Angel Jibraeel and asked, “But what is Allah’s wish?”
And Angel Jibraeel’s eyes brimmed with tears as he replied, “It is Allah’s wish, that you lay down your life.”
Hussain sheathed his sword and the force of Zulfiqar was constrained. His steed, sensing that his lord wished to dismount knelt down its front legs and the star of The Throne descended to the ground. Hussain sat against a date palm tree.
From all sides they attacked him, with stones, with arrows, with spears. One by one they came to slay him but turned and ran back. Angrily Shimr L.A. demanded, “Why do you not kill Hussain!?”
And they responded by saying, “He looks at us with the eyes of Rasulullah!”
Shimr came. In his hand was a blunt dagger and on his feet were metal socks. He came close to Husain and kicked him violently to the ground.
Shamelessly Shimr sat across Hussain’s chest and drew his dagger across Hussain’s throat twelve times but it didn’t work.
Hussain told him. “Get up! Your sword will not work here. This is the kissing place of my grandfather Rasulullah.”
Laeen Shimr had to get up. Hussain went into sajda and prayed for all Mumineen until Qiyamat. Laeen Shimr severed the blessed head from the mubarak body. LABAIK YA HUSSAIN A.S.

*Arafa Day*

Yawm al-Arafat:

The 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of Arafat.

It is this day when the pilgrims gather on the mountain plain of Arafat, praying and supplicating to their Lord. The day of Arafat holds great importance in Islam since this is the Day when Allâh completed his revelation on His Messenger (Sallâhu alaihe wa-sallam). It is reported in the Sahîhayn (i.e. Sahîh al-Bukharî and Sahîh Muslim), that a Jewish man said to him:
“O Amîr al-Muminîn (O head of the Muslims)!
There is a verse in the Qur’ân, which if was revealed on us, the Jews, we would have taken that day as an Eid (festival).
‘Which verse?’ He said: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [Sûrah al-Maidah (5): 3]
‘We know on which day and in which place was this verse revealed to Allâh’s Messenger (sAllâhu alaihe wa-sallam). It was when he was standing in Arafat on a Friday.

Arafat is the day on which Allâh took the covenant from the progeny of Adam (alaihis-salâm), it was reported that Ibn Abbas (radhi Allâhu anhu) narrated: The Messenger of Allâh (sallAllâhu alaihi wa-sallam) related:
“(When Allâh created Adam (alaihis-salâm) Allâh took covenant from him in a place Na’mân on the day of Arafat, then He extracted from him all the descendants who would be born until the end of the world, generation after generation, and spread them out in front of Him in order to take a covenant from them also. He spoke to them face to face saying:“Am I not your Lord?”and they all replied: ‘Yes, we testify to it’. Allâh then explained why He had all of mankind bear witness that He was their Creator and only true God worthy of worship. He said:
“That was in case you (mankind) should say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘Surely, we were unaware of this. We had no idea that You, Allâh, were our Lord. No one told us that we were only supposed to worship You.”
[(Sahîh by Shaikh al-Albanî in Silsilah al-Ahâdîth as-Sahîhah vol: 4, no: 1623]

Indeed, the day of Arafat is a blessed day and there is no other covenant greater than this covenant! Arafat is a day of Forgiveness from sins, freedom from the Hell-Fire for the people who are present in the plain of Arafat. A’ishah narrated the Messenger of Allâh (sallAllâhu alaihi wa-sallam) saying:
“There is no day on which Allâh frees more people from the Fire than the day of Arafat. He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels saying, ’What do these people (the Hajis) want?’” [Sahîh Muslim]

This Hâdîth mentions forgiveness for the pilgrims. In addition to this, fasting on the day of Arafat is a Sunnah and an expiation of sins for the residents. Hunaydah ibn Khâlid reported from his wife that some of the wives of the Prophet (sallAllâhu alaihi wa-sallam) said:
“The Messenger of Allâh (sallAllâhu alaihi wa-sallam) used to fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, on the day of Ashûrah, on three days of each month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of each month.” [(Sahîh) by Shaikh al-Albanî in Sahîh Abi Dawûd vol: 2, no: 462]

It is reported in Sahîh Muslim that when the Messenger of Allâh (sallAllâhu alaihi wa-sallam) was asked about the fasting on the day of Arafat, he said:
“It expiates the sins of the previous year and that of the following year.” [Sahîh Muslim]

This fasting is Mustahabb only for the non-pilgrims and not for the Hajis (the pilgrims) because it was not the practice of Allâh’s Messenger (sallAllâhu alaihi wa-sallam) to fast on the day of Arafat during pilgrimage and in a narration he also forbade doing so.

As the dawn of Ramadhan approaches, offering us glimpse of its golden rays of purity, every Muslim around the world prepares to experience the warm ambience which only this month can bring. In order to derive the utmost benefit from the sacred month of Ramadhan, it is crucial to recognize the spiritual significance and importance of this month.

First it'll be the most glorious of all months. It's such an exciting time for all Alhamdulillah.
For some the wait for moon is on….Muslims All over are waiting for the silver line crescent hiding in the clouds to bring in the news that Ramadan has come….

The month of glory, the month of benefits, the month of holiness, the month of prayers, the month of rewards…..So everyone are desperately waiting for the pious month to begin.

A time to let go of things, just let it go, it’s time to weed out all those all unnecessary things, get your physical, mental and spiritual garden ready for the rain of Ramadhan blessings. Lets welcome it with much happiness and grandeur and pray to Allah(S.W.T) to keep us all healthy and wise and to perform all the Salaah, Fasting and Good Deeds in this blessed coming month Inshallah.

I always remember my childhood days in Zanzibar where i used to hear at night a man singing in a melodius voice "UTHO YAARO MUSALMANO" waking all for Sehri. I was always curious to see who this person was, but was a scare crow at that time & would peep from the window and see him carying a lantern and a stick and singing and walking on everyday rain or shine he will do his duty. People would throw or give him some money.  Those were the days which were very different than now.

Nahjul Balagha Quotes

Beautiful quotes from *MAULA ALI,* from the Peak of Eloquence book! Worth reading and following

1. Hate no one, no matter how much they've wronged you. Live humbly, no matter how wealthy you become. Think positively, no matter how hard life is. Give much, even if you've been given little. Keep in touch with the ones who have forgotten you, forgive who has wronged you, and pray for the best for those you love.

2. Awaken your heart to kindness and mercy for the people and love and tenderness for them, because  people fall into two categories: they are either your brothers/ sisters in faith or your equals in humanity.

3. Never look down on someone unless you’re helping them up ie don't make eye contact and lower your eyes

4. The nourishment of the body is food, while the nourishment of the soul is feeding others.

5. Be like a flower that gives its fragrance even to the hands that crushes it.

6. Speak only when your words are more beautiful than silence.

7. If the eyes of a female cry over a man that oppressed her, Angels will curse him with every step he walks.

8. Do not use the sharpness of your speech on the mothers who taught you how to speak.

9. A moment of patience in a moment of anger prevents a thousand moments of regret.

10.  Life consists of two days, one for you one against you. So when it's for you don't be proud or reckless, and when it's against you be patient, for both days are test for you.

11. The best deed of a great man is to forgive and forget.

12. Live amongst people in such a manner that if you die they weep over you and if you are alive they crave for your company.

#Arbaeen 1440

Journey of a billion miles.
By: Saif Saifuddin Kuvawala
As I was trying to pick a heading to write my experience during "Arbaeen Walk", I thought of the fact that I was travelling from the earth, full of sins, to the Heaven full of purity and forgiveness and while no one knows for sure, how far the heaven is in physical travelling distance, I assume it could easily be more than a billion miles from this earth. It is my faith and my Moula Husain's ehsan that this distance was shortened by mere 100km.
I would like to reflect here with some of my experience through this spiritual journey "the walk of Arbaeen". Although my limited vocabulary fails to describe the sentimental emotions combined with the ultimate joy of being at The PLACE where dreams dare. It was beyond anything I had imagined.
One thought that kept coming to my mind that from the prophet Adam (as) to Khatem-un-Nabeeien (saw), all th Awsiyaa and Awliyaa, we never celebrate their chehlum in such a proportion, axcept Moula Husain and in such a high standard that the number of zaeerin coming to Karbala on Arbaeen will soon surpass the numbers going for Hajj.
Husain sajda-e-akhir mey jab they masroof
Khuda ko fikr thi key badley mey kiya diyaa jaey

It was my life long dream to walk from Najaf to Karbala on Arbaeen, from one Babul Hawaij to the other Babul Hawaij, with my head bowed and my kashkol stretched out.
The crowd at the shrine of the Moula-e-Kaenaat was really humbling. The beleivers were pouring in, all with their hands stretched out asking for something, all begging for something. The streets were filled with flocks of zaereen, trying to reach the baab, the doorway to the hajaat, Babul hawaij, the door where all your wishes come true even before you enter.  I bowed my head in suplication, a sajda to the king of kings, my moula, the moula-e-kaenaat. As I was in sajda at the doorway to the heaven on earth, knowing that my dream was about to be realized, my empty kaskol is about to be filled, tears found their way from my heart to my eyes, the flood gate of my heart flew open and the tears started to pour out. I raised my head. I was content to just sit there at the doorway, as I always considered myself a begger of that doorway and as the beggers never cross the doorways.
Mey to bhikary hoon Moula, tery dehleez ki mittee kaa
Yeh kahaan mery auqaat key tery zareeh choom sakoon
BUT then the door was already open and I saw other  beggers and fakeers and sawalis entering and so did I. The reach towards the zareeh was truly humbling. Never imagined so many sawaalis trying to just touched the zareeh. There were those, who probably had the world at their feet and those who had nothing but the empty kashkol asking for the world of wishes. Some had the rugged faces weathered and hardened by the desrt sun and the years of war and hardship and theree were those who had the skin softer than the baby's bottom. There were those who were built like an ox and a physique that would put a mountain to shame and then there were those who would make a man beleiving in peity and humbleness. They All had one thing in common, they were all crying out loud. Ever want to see a mountain of the men who would put the goliath to shame, cry like an infant, not one or two or ten but the hundreds and thousands. They were all begging for something, some wanted to share their pain as knowing there is no one who would listen accept the man laying in there. Who is known to be true "Mushkil Kushaa" and some who had nothing but doaas and hajjats to be fullfilled knowing that they have come to a "Babulhawaij".
Ashhado annaka tasma-ul-kalam wa tarudduljawaab.

I stood in one corner, talking to the man laying in there. Tears flew like the water without the bridge. My eyes closed, just asking and crying with my hands joined together, a huge, gorilla of a man, out of the crowd, came near me and wiped my tears from my face with his hands and wiped them on his own face. I could not believe. The floodgate of my tears just flew open wide. Another man came to me and did the same and then the third and fourth. (It reminded me of the yawm-e-Ashura, when a lady came to me and wiped the blood from my kurta and wiped on her hand). My knees buckled, I could not believe my eyes. I cried, O Moula, I am nobody. I am a sinner, I am a begger and fakeer, I am a slave of your slaves. O Moula outside I was nobody and you brought this begger, this fakeer, this sawali in to your home and raised him so high that others treat my tears and blood as "tabarruk" Moula. Who am I O Moula, who am I. O Moula, I am nobody. O Moula I am nobody.
I realized, there were two doorways, one to enter and other to exit and then the reality sank in. When you enter, you live your pride, envy, sins and all your worldly kingdom behind. Pass infront of the King of Kings laying there, walk with humility, grace and gratitude and leave with purity and sinless passion through the second doorway.
Next day, I started the walk, the walk that I craved for. 100 kms. Would I be able to? Knowing that mere 8 years ago, I could not even go to the bathroom with partly paralized body and doctors insisting, i will spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Would I be able to do it? All I know is that I went to Moula Ali and asked for one thing, O Moula, I am walking away from you with only one wish to reach to your son and do the sajda at his doorstep. I will do what a servent and ghulam does and O Moula you do what "Mushkil Kushaa" does.
And I walked and I walked and I walked.
Looking around, thinking and remembering how my mazloom imam would have walked, with chains in his feet and touq in his neck, bare feet on the unpaved desert of burning sand full of thorns and if ever stopped to pull the splinters out from his feet, he was treated with lashes. How the saidaaniyas would have crossed this distance from Karbala to Shaam on the bare backs of the camels, with only their hair to cover their faces.  Once someone asked my moula, when was the most painfull moment and the SayedusSajedeen, Ali ibne Husain ibne Ali ibne Abi Talib, replied, the moment when the tatheer-e-risalat was without veil and the muslemeen's ghaleez eyes were focused on them.
Ees shaan sey chali thee bint-e-la fatah
chadar na thi tou haibat-e-Abbas aurh lee.

I was thinking of the Zainab-e-Kubra, having 18 brothers, one of them being Abbas, but none of the brothers having seen her face without veil. I was thinking of the little girl, merely 4-6 years old, always slept on her father's chest, having to walk on the burning sand under the spear carrying her father's head. I was thinking of the mother riding on the bare back of the camel, hiding her face with her hair, staring at the empty cradle which once was filled with her 6 months  old. I was thinking of the lady, once a princess of Qasra, on a bare back of a camel now watching her ill son, the Imam of the time, bearing all the pain and torture and husband's head carried around beside her on the spear. I was thinking of a mother through her hair covering her face, staring at her 18 year old son's head on the spear..............
AND I kept thinking and weeping every step of the way. The road kept folding beneath my feet. Every step became heavier then the previous ones. Was it because of the swelling in my feet were increasing or was it the thought of the beemar-e-Karbala walking with touq in his neck and chains in his feet were more painfull then my imagination. The thoughts of the masaeeb that ahl-e-bait had to bear through the journey were beyond my comprehension. I would like to think that later was true. I kept weeping and kept walking. Every step made me more and more humble. Every step brought me closer to the land of the qarb and balaa.
The journey, the walk was beyond my wildest dreams. I had heard a lot about the hospitality of the people but believe me untill you are in the thick and thin of it yourself, you haven't seen nothing. The love, respect and appreciations of the people for the zaereen was beyond any words can describe. The humility and faith and determination of the walkers were beyond comprehension. The women with toddlers, infants in their arms and in the baby carraiges, the young children from 5-12 years, some bare feet some with just a cheap slippers. some walking from Najaf, a mere 100 km distance (in their words) some from Qum and some from Basra and they all walked, putting this old man (myself), with his expensive orthotics and trippled jelled fancy shoes,  questioning his own faith if it has gone weaker.
If you ever have doubts that "faith can move mountains" come to walk of Arbaeen.
So I kept walking and weeping, remembering my mazloom Imam and ahl-e-bait's masaaebs. the pole numbers kept rising, the distance kept shrinking. Every step brought this fakeer to his Moula Husain and Moula abbas. The second Babul Hawaij where the angels wait at the doorway to greet the zaereen, to say O you who have suffered the pain and difficulties reaching here in memory of your mazloom Imam's masaaeeb, come and claim your place in heaven. Come and show us the list of your wishes and doaas so we can carry them to Moula Husain.
So I reached the second babulhawaij.
As I reached the door step to my Moula, my knees buckled, my body weakened, i went into sajda at the doorstep. O Moula you brought me here. Me and my fragile faith and physical limitations, how could I have managed without your will and help. O ibne Mushkil Kushaa Moula, if it is a dream, please don't let me wake up Moula. I couldn't have done it Moula without your help.
So I entered the doorways to the heaven, pure and humble as a sole can be. The rush of beggers were beyond imagination. I stood there in awe. Just trying to have the reality sink in. Trying to convince myself that I am standing infront of the Moula, who had given a begger seven son's, Fitrus his wings, Hur bin Riyahi his final wish. I was standing infron of the Moula, who since birth have been a waseela of us gunahgaars, us beggers, who would otherwise never have a reach to Allah-o-buzurg-o-bartar due to the burdon of the mountains of sins we are burried under.
I could not stop thinking, been to Umrah few years ago and having seen those Saudi men in their milky white robes preaching, near Jannat-ul-Baqeeh, of not to ask anyone else but Allah (swt). What if Allah said that you could not have it because of your sins and because it is not in your fate. What would you do? You would come to Karbala on your hands and knees in the presence of the Mazloom Imam and hold his zareeh and beg till your hearts content. Like that beggar did who was granted seven sons or Fitrus or Hur. Because sometimes the sinners like us need the waseela of imam-e-mazloom- o-masoom for qabool-e-doaa.

Maanaa ke mere gunaah heyn pahaaron sey buland
Yaa Allah! merey gunah buland yaa meraa waseela buland

It is better to have heart without words then the words without heart.

A question about Imam Hussain A.S.

A muslim friend, who doesn’t identify as a lover of Ahlulbayt (A.S.) asked me during muharram *how do you love Hussain A.S. so much, when you haven’t seen him, or met him, or know him in real life?*

The answer, which was long yet very simple, was this: the physical eye is typical and worldly.

I’ve seen Hussain A.S. with my heart, when I say the word “hussain” my heart breaks, when I say his name I see him in front of me.

It doesn’t have to be the physical manifestation, but the ideology, the selflessness, the virtue, the truth, the justice, the tawheed and full submission to GOD at all times.

Hussain A.S. embodies, he is the physical manifestation of all that is good and right and just.

When I say “Ya Hussain” I’m calling on all of those things intertwined to create this human being who allah created to uphold and maintain “La Illaha Illa Allah” alive and well, to maintain islam, to maintain the Quràan the God’s words.

Hussain A.S. is everything which you view that is good and right and holy,.

He is the embodiment of them; so are the rest of ahlul bayt, yet hussain is the leading example, as the rest of Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) have said, La Yawm Ka Yawmuka Ya Abba Abdillah, “there is no day like yours (Ashura) oh Abba Abdillah (Hussain).”

This is what it means when the famous saying is said, “the name of Hussain A.S. strikes o fire in the heart of every mumin (believer).” when you have a sound heart, a feel for others, altruism and to do good and be just, then Hussain’s message is yours as well. embody it.

This message is not limited to muharram, ashura or Arbaeen. this is a philosophy, a way of life of all of Ahlulbayt.

I see Hussain in my heart, I feel his presence, and that is how and why I love him so much.

Hussain and his father, Ali A.S, taught me how to love truly, unconditionally, selflessly.

It is that love of self sacrifice for Allah SWT and complete submission that is the most important ultimately.

The message of Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) in the end is love. simply, complete and unconditional love.

Alhamdullilah

Alhamdullilah

Say Alhamdullilah

Whatever happens is by the Will of Allah, whether it be good or bad. Sometimes we forget Allah when it comes to happy moments, but immediately turn to Him for the bad. We should always be thanking Allah (SWT) for His infinite blessings, even in the tough times. He still gives and gives and we don’t even ask. The mercy of our Lord is beyond.. Subhna’Allah. “Its better a calamity that turns you to Allah, than a blessing that makes you forget Allah”
Always say Alhamdulillah for everything….
